Letter Coming Home Today

Dear kindergarten families,

Sight words are a group of very common words that good readers recognize instantly and automatically.  Many of the sight words cannot be “sounded out” and they need to be learned by “sight”.  Because recognizing these words is so important during reading, using a variety of activities to teach, practice and memorize the words is critical in teaching children to read.

We are working hard on learning sight words in kindergarten.  We will focus on a few sight words a week.  At the beginning of each week a list will come home with the sight words for the week.  Please help your child practice reading and writing the sight words each week.

On the back of this page you will find a list of activities you can use to help your child learn and practice their sight words at home.

Your kindergarten teacher,

Mrs. Leach
