Mary Bleckwhel the author of "Henry" books will be coming tomorrow from 9:45-10:15 to talk to the kindergarteners tomorrow.  She will also be signing her books from 10:15-10:30.  Please return your form by tomorrow if you would like to purchase one of her books.

iPods

We are using the iPods to scan addition problems, sight words, and sight word sentences.  Students read the word, write the word, solve the addition problem and scan to see if they got the correct answer.  Students are LOVING all of the things they can do with the iPods.

4-H

4-H will be canceled for the month of March.  We were supposed to meet on Thursday, March 21st but due to conferences being rescheduled we will no longer be able to have 4-H that day.  Thank you!

K-1 Music Concert

The K-1 dress rehearsal has been rescheduled for tomorrow (3/20/13) at 10:30.  The concert will still be on Friday (3/22/13) at 10:30.

Sight Word Homework

Dear kindergarten families,

We are working hard on learning sight words in kindergarten.  We will focus on four new sight words and one color word each week.  At the beginning of each week a list will come home with the sight words for the week.  This list will also indicate the color word we will focus on that week.  Please help your child practice reading and writing the sight words each week.  We will wrap up each week by wearing the color we are focusing on for that week. 

Sight words are a group of very common words that good readers recognize instantly and automatically.  Many of the sight words cannot be “sounded out” and they need to learned by “sight”.  Because recognizing these words is so important during reading, using a variety of activities to teach, practice and memorize the words is critical in teaching children to read.

Coin Challenge

Coin for a Day Challenge

During the week of March 11^th our school is participating in a grade level coin challenge.  Each day represents a different type of coin.  The grade generating the highest overall total will receive $50 in books from Scholastic!

If you have loose coins hiding under couch cushions, floor mats, in pockets, or the bottom of your bag, put them to good use by giving students more access to books they’ll want to read! Our school will use the donations to purchase books for classroom libraries.
