Guided Reading Groups
I meet with students 2-3 times a week for guided reading groups. During groups we are reviewing letter names/sounds, working on learning all 35 kindergarten sight words, and working on reading leveled books. Students are working on tracking their words in the book as they read and sounding out words/using picture clues to figure out unknown words.
Reviewing letter names and sounds...
Students played Jenga to review their letter names and sounds today during group. If they could name the letter and sound correctly they got to stack the block.

PJ Reading Day
Kindergartners spent the day celebrating their LOVE of reading. They read books out of our leveled library, read/listened to books on the iPod, had special guests come and read, and listened to books be read on the smartboard. They even got to listen to a book on c.d. The students had to lay on their backs and paint a pictures in their head of what they were hearing (visualizing). What a great day!
Special thanks... Mrs. Zwolenski, Mrs. Nielsen, Mrs. Worman, and Mrs. Whelan for coming to read to us today.

We have been working on sequencing numbers 0-31 and patterns. Come visit us at school and check out our hard work!
Snowman Writing
We have been working on writing sentences in kindergarten. We have talked about starting with an uppercase letter, putting spaces between words, and ending with a period. The students wrote inside of the snowman's belly about what they like or love about winter.
Mrs. Nielsen is back...
Mrs. Nielsen came and visited us yesterday! She did a lesson with students on following directions. They did a whole group snowman activity where she gave them 1-2 step directions and they had to complete the steps on their snowman sheet.

iPods in Kindergarten
Kindergartner's were introduced to the iPods today. They learned how to turn the iPod on/off, how to control the volume, where the camera and microphone were located, and they learned how to navigate around the iPod. Students used the Starfall (ABC) app, Bugsy Math app, Tumblebooks (online books) app, and some links that took them to youtube to listen to some of the educational songs we have been learning in Kindergarten. We will start using the iPods on a daily basis. Please make sure that your child has headphones at school. They will not be able to use the iPods without a set of headphones. Thank you! Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to come and see students using the iPods.
